The Spirit of the Place

The restoration of La Bergerie and its surrounds was carried out with respect for the past and in keeping with the local architecture. Great care was taken in limiting the disruption to local resources while integrating the latest technologies.

We employed local artisans and used natural or recycled building materials like chalk, clay and wood from neighbouring forests.

Polished, waterproof plaster (a technique called “tadelakt), waxed cement and linseed oiled floors contribute to the comfort of the house which is always easy on the eye.

An ancient spring was rehabilitated and rainwater is now collected from the surfaces of all the roofs.

Solar panels have been installed for the hot water and heating.

An orchard has been planted with hundreds of heirloom fruit trees; varieties that don’t require chemical treatment.

Our bees are in charge of pollinating our fruit and flowers.
